Collective show with Isaac Contreras, Éléonore False and Thomas Koenig.

“An artist in residence doesn’t always find himself with the required obligation of a result, not even of any production.
The time spent in residence is dedicated to research, to reading books or going to the swimming pool, to renew oneself without the urge of an achievement, freed from financial concern. Within this residence, artists occupy temporarily the same space to live in which favors and intensifies the meeting, fortuitous affiliations and the daily sharing of influences. This experience is a permanent featuring with all that is the content of a life put on hold for 4 months.

feat. is a collective exhibition proposition marked by the unexpected emulation and symbiosis between the three artists in residence at Triangle France. This public presentation is an open window on an ongoing creation, the selected and shown works are marked by the production context. Eléonore, Isaac and Thomas gathered their thoughts around the idea of what it meant to show together.

Independent from one another the works influence each other in the way they are read by their joint presence in that space. The exhibition rhythm is set by these questions of influence, association and cohabitation. Alluding to featuring, which is the hip hop version of collaboration, the contraction feat. gives its name to the exhibition. Just like a featuring what matters is the notion of exchange and sharing of inspiration and of references.

A DVD to take away will demonstrate an idea of this exchange, in the same way some tumblr shares infinite scrolls of inspiring images and mix tape downloading websites. Visitors will leave with a DVD on which they will find two compilations, a visual and a sound one. The material gathered was selected according to set criteria corresponding either to important influences or simply as a material that followed the artists during the residence. These two projects are articulated by two featuring guests : Julien Fischer, graphics designer, for the images and Charlotte Rocchi for the sounds. The influence to take away is like a viral craftsmen disease.”

Isaac Contreras was born in 1984, he lives and works in Mexico.
My project explores the materials, craftsmanship, and techniques involved in the act of fishing as a starting point for sculpture. I use fishing as a research process into the marine void to create a series of sculptures informed by the new materials, forms, and techniques I have discovered while learning to fish. This includes the local craftsmanship involved in net-making and other fishing artifacts, the observation and study of bait, the construction of wooden boats, as well as the commercial and social aspects of the fishing market in the Old Port.
My goal is to create a series of sculptures derived from the observation and practice of fishing. Metallic structures take shape based on the dance-like movements of a type of marine worm used as bait in the Mediterranean Sea. This particular dance is what attracts fish to the hook, with a kind of magnetism that I translate into a drawing gesture within the exhibition space.

Éléonore False was born in 1987, she lives and works in Paris.
Patterns, gazes, gestures, bodies, remnants, frames, objects, plants, etc. During my residency, I sought to classify the types of images I collect in my daily life. As I progressed in this sorting process, I identified multiple subcategories—each representing signs within a vocabulary for my practice.
In Marseille, my research has increasingly focused on gesture, dance, and performance. I am not necessarily moving toward a physically performative practice but rather refining my use of images, employing them as traces of imaginary performances—a thread to extend in the creation of a bodily language within the exhibition space. In this sense, I am particularly interested in the elliptical nature of still images, as they generate an active space between my gaze and that of the viewer.
One of the most significant discoveries during my residency was the book Histoire de gestes, which profoundly influenced my exploration.

Thomas Koenig was born in 1983, he lives and works in Vevey.
During my residency at Triangle France, I focused on studio work—an approach that had never truly been mine, as I am more accustomed to working on a computer or directly within exhibition spaces during installation.
As time goes on, my work seems to absorb a certain aspect of Marseille, particularly its streets and nightlife. My process can be understood as a form of collage: an element or situation within urban furniture catches my attention, and a combination with drawing takes place. The reality of the creative process is not so different from my experience of living in an unfamiliar city—there are surprises, encounters, and sometimes difficulties in coexistence.
I believe the forms in my work are recognizable; they might originate from the same “places.” But sometimes, they create tension, like a moment before a fight. This tension isn’t always obvious—you have to catch it, or you might miss it, and that’s not such a big deal.
