Juan Diego Tobalina
Juan Diego Tobalina was born in 1982 in Lima (PE), he lives and works in Lima (PE) and Madrid (ES).
“My work takes the form of installations, videos, sound art, and objects. The foundation of my research is perception, as well as the millions of subjectivities that make up what we call Reality. I am particularly interested in processes that involve the creation of unstable, ephemeral moments, in the idea of constantly being between one stage and the next. The occult—or rather, the unknown—is an immaterial space where I feel comfortable working because it is a place where anything can happen. My approach to the unknown is a way of connecting things that cannot be explained but whose presence we can feel around us. I consider absence to be very important, as it relates to a presence that has just departed and to what remains of it. In this way, I also explore issues of the mind, specifically in relation to psychology and psychiatry. I try to investigate different manifestations by working with tests and producing my own interpretations and manipulations to reveal the subjectivity surrounding this topic. What are the ghosts in our minds, and how are they created?” - Juan Diego Tobalina
