Colin Champsaur
Colin Champsaur is an Astérides Resident in 2013. The Associate Artists program has only formally existed since 2023, but we archive under this category the former Astérides or Triangle France residents who were based in Marseille.
Colin Champsaur was born in 1974 in Marseille, he lives and works in Marseille (FR).
Colin Champsaur’s artistic practice is an open structure that crosses the boundaries of genres in different forms (sculpture, photography, installation, drawing, video, exhibition curation…). The challenge is to push a singular dynamic of threshold/passage between what is manufactured and what is constructed, and their possible isotropic correlations. Everything is then a matter of combining realities: the first maintains logical and meticulous relationships of re-presentation with a fragmented reality, where it appears as an investigation field that is both banal and “miraculous,” providing material and form (reality beyond reality, photographs of the world as image backgrounds, formal or metaphorical properties of used objects as pieces added to the works for their various references and legacies of models…); the second pertains to plastic production, its readability, and visual rhetoric that is exposed—a heterodox way of making, the construction of heterogeneous and polysemic forms and meanings that bring together tools and manipulations, aesthetic questions and narratives, Cartesian dualism and wanderings, dialectical figures and mental scenarios, intellectual experimentation and reverie space, sensitive objects and holes… This combination operates through sliding games, by concentrating complexity, through what becomes visible or not, and through what is determined or not.
