Katia Bourdarel

Katia Bourdarel was born in 1970 in Marseille, she lives and works in Marseille and Paris (FR)

Katia Bourdarel’s work explores the capacity for wonder present in each of us, through various media such as video installation, photography and watercolor. Her world is populated by princes and princesses, moments of happiness twirling and suspended in the circularity of animation. It is lit up with moments of abandonment, magical slumber and enchantments. Yet her world feels familiar, even intimate. It is this world, our own, but rendered in images. Her work plays on resemblances, intimacies, the fabric of family life. Everything is on the surface, everything is staged, everything seems simple… but something shifts and pulls us to the other side. That is where the singularity of her work emerges.
