Stéphane Le Mercier

1994, 2000, 2001

Stéphane Le Mercier is an Astérides Resident in 1994, 2000 and 2001. The archives of Triangle-Astérides do not allow for the determination of the exact dates or the duration of these residencies.

Stéphane Le Mercier was born in 1964 in Saint-Brieuc (FR), he lives and works in Marseille (FR)

Stéphane Le Mercier belongs to the generation whose neo-conceptual approaches emerged in the early 1990s. Very quickly, he lived abroad (Hungary, Ireland, Germany), and these stays inspired a reflection on the economy of signs and the use of language within globalized culture. By creating tension between heterogeneous elements (textual ready-made and abstract painting, minimal sculpture and typographic element), he seeks to bring out “polyglot” narratives. To do so, he collaborates with the IFF gallery and regularly takes part in the activities of the Marseille-based journal fondcommun and those of the publishing house Incertain Sens (Rennes).
