« Scape is conceived as a walk in which the invited artists revisit the age-old notion of landscape. Yet for all of them, despite the diversity of their approaches and media (drawing, photography, video, installation), landscape always serves as a pretext for a dreamlike escape. In the work of the artists invited to Scape, the idea of reminiscence is central, as it articulates our perceptions through the recollection of habits of which we have neither knowledge nor awareness, and which shape our relationship to cultural models.

The idea of landscape provides a form, a framework, a set of measurements for our perceptions—distance, orientation, viewpoints, situation, scale. We draw the visible using shapes and colours taken from our cultural arsenal, ranging from Impressionism to the Baroque or the Renaissance, by way of postcards, posters at the dentist’s office, or wall calendars.

By playing with these conventions of landscape, the works on display invite us to experience something between assumed reality and present fiction. This is indeed a mark of the contemporary: the blending of territories, the absence of boundaries between domains, and the development of audiovisual technologies have generated new perceptual versions of “other” landscapes. »
