Narrative Machines (2022) is an artist’s book disguised as a medical magazine, written by six fictional Moroccan female characters who revel in their narratives. The publication documents the recent work of artist Ghita Skali (b. 1992, Casablanca; lives in Amsterdam) and simultaneously stands as an artwork in its own right.
Co-written with Ayla Mrabet and Kaoutar Chaqchaq, this magazine blends truth and fiction—mostly fiction—and sharply satirizes paranoia, fake news, patriarchy, and the entanglement of media and politics in the Maghreb (and beyond). Instead, it envisions an elective community of women who confide, support, and laugh together.
