Événement

Plus fort que moi [Stronger than me]

Collective reading and performance by Aurélien Potier.

Thursday, February 20, 2020
Atelier-Assemblée, red staircase - 2nd floor, Friche la Belle de Mai

Collective reading 10AM-6PM

A partnership with the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Marseille.

As a prelude to the film retrospective of Guillaume Dustan, imagined by Julien Laugier, Pascaline Morincôme, and Olga Rozenblum, which will take place at Vidéodrome 2 from February 7 to 9, 2020, a reading and discussion workshop designed as a journey through Dustan’s literary work is offered in partnership with Les Beaux-Arts de Marseille.

Guillaume Dustan (1965-2005), writer, editor, magistrate, is also the author of seventeen films made between 2000 and 2004, which for a long time constituted an almost entirely forgotten body of work. After being the subject of a retrospective cycle in Paris in June 2019, ten films by Guillaume Dustan will be presented in Marseille at the invitation of Videodrome 2.

The workshop will be led by the creators of the retrospective, in the presence of Nina Leger, Nicolas Feodoroff, professors at Les Beaux-Arts, and their students.

The workshop is open to the public and participation is free, subject to availability.

Performance 7PM (duration: 30 minutes)

“…Because, in fact, in this relationship, the bond is assumed; we don’t pretend to be alone and be able to manage alone. Without the other person, I wouldn’t be able to feel this. I owe everything to them.

Fight? Sit down, learn, do nothing? YES, EXACTLY THAT!

I used to be something until I no longer was. Because there is an absence of memory, it might never be. There’s no way. There’s no way to let this happen until it ends. The end? There will be no end. Just limits.” (translated from French)

This performance is an exploration of dependency. We won’t go beyond our limits; we will stay within.

Through his practice, Aurélien Potier explores disturbance, resistance, and the abject. Sometimes using his own body as a starting point, and other times digital images, Aurélien Potier seeks both intimacy and radical otherness. His visuals and texts lie somewhere between vulnerability and cynicism, between comedy and unease.

Aurélien Potier (born in 1992, lives and works in Marseille) graduated from the Rietveld Academie in 2018. His work has been presented in a solo exhibition at Belsunce Projects (Marseille) and in group exhibitions at Ness space (Paris), de Oude Kerk and SSBA Salon (Amsterdam, Netherlands), Cooper Union (New York, USA), SUB (Çanakkale, Turkey), Sissi Club, and Voiture 14 (Marseille).

Since September 2019, Triangle France - Astérides has been supporting Aurélien Potier’s work through its development and project production support program in the region.
