Personne ici n'est innocent
Duo show by Kjersti Andvig, with Carlton A. Turner
April 5 - May 10, 2008
Galerie de la Friche, Friche la Belle de Mai, 13003 Marseille
Kjersti Andvig is a young Norwegian artist born in 1978 in Oslo. For the past two years, she has been working on an incredibly whimsical yet profoundly serious project about the historical relationships between knitting and the death penalty, particularly focusing on the figure of the Knitter (a working-class woman who knit while attending public executions during the French Revolution). This project is materialized here, at Triangle, by the presentation of a monumental work consisting of a knitted reproduction of the cell of Carlton A. Turner, an African American prisoner awaiting execution on death row in Texas.
