December 3 - 17, 1997
Galerie de la Friche la Belle de Mai, 13003 Marseille
The artists’ association Astérides has been based at the Friche la Belle de Mai since its creation. For the past four years, it has offered short-term studio residencies with a selection process that maintains the flexibility of a non-institutional choice.
This second exhibition presented by Astérides in the gallery of the Friche la Belle de Mai marks the conclusion of the residencies of four invited artists: Maria Thereza Alves, Jimmie Durham, Florence Farrugia, and Anne-Frédérique Lacour. The exhibition will also feature recent works by the permanent residents of the association’s studios (Pierre Albert, Gilles Barbier, Francesco Finizio, Claire Mangeais, Jean-Christophe Nourisson, Sandrine Raquin). True to its commitments, Astérides seeks through this event to recapture the spirit and atmosphere of its collective studios: exchanges, diversity, confrontation of different practices, encounters between French and international artists, between emerging and established artists.
Taking this opportunity, Astérides will also hold a public sale of a boxed set published in 60 copies, containing multiples (photographs, objects, drawings…) created by the 10 participants of the exhibition.
