February 15 - 27, 1999
Galerie de la Friche la Belle de Mai, 13003 Marseille
At Triangle France and Astérides:
With Tir groupé, these associations have chosen to come together for an afternoon of encounters with young contemporary creation, on the occasion of each of their exhibition openings. This is a one-time event. Its aim is to make visible part of the work these organizations carry out. With a commitment to quality and professionalism, they are regularly engaged in animating and energizing the associative field of contemporary art in Marseille.
Astérides and Triangle France: Vincent Bunel, Judith Josso, Stéphanie Nava, Julia Pastor Lloret, Denis Prisset.
Astérides and Triangle France have been based at La Friche Belle de Mai since 1992 and 1996 respectively. They are artist-run and operate autonomously. Both develop programs of exchange and artist residencies for young French and international artists. They also regularly organize exhibitions at the Friche Gallery and elsewhere.
Astérides and Triangle France have chosen to orient their participation in Tir groupé by dedicating a space to the expression of a young generation of figures evolving within the field of contemporary art (artists, critics, journalists). Through a joint exhibition curated by Christian Joschke, a young art historian and critic, they offer a vision of the work of five young artists who completed their studies no more than two years ago.
In the other locations of Tir groupé:
RLBQ: Robert Tysarczyk
RLBQ (Reposez La Bonne Question), a space for the dissemination and creation of contemporary art, has existed since 1997. The association held its first exhibition in January 1998.
For Tir groupé, the artist studios at RLBQ present the work of Robert Tysarczyk. Using a 1:1 scale as his base, Robert Tysarczyk represents reality at its own dimension—a reality so literal that it becomes abstract.
Tohu-bohu: Stéphane Arcas, Hervé Garcia, Ingrid Mourreau, Frédéric Raynal, Christophe Touzot
Tohu-bohu is an artist-run contemporary art space created in June 1995 by Denis Prunier and Olivier Turpin, two artists based in Marseille. Ten times a year, they host two-day exhibitions featuring two young artists in their respective studios.
For Tir groupé, they present a collective of five Marseille-based artists representative of their annual program.
SMP: Fabrice Bertran
SMP (Sol, Mur, Plafond) launched its first exhibition with Anonyme in 1994. This exhibition space is managed by its four founding artist members: Jean-Paul Berrenger, Ingrid Hochschoner, Stéphane Magat, and Géraldine Pastor-LLoret.
It is the site of their commitment to promoting all forms of contemporary art. Far from—or right next to, depending on one’s view—the politico-economic filters of critics, galleries, and public curators, SMP is a place of experimentation and creation that offers a very different space for guest artists and their work.
For Tir groupé, SMP invites Fabrice Bertran, who lives and works in Rouen. Over ten years, the collaboration between Bertran and Berrenger gave rise to a number of visual and sound-based experiments.
