Androa Mindre Kolo

01 to 01 January 2009

The archives of Triangle-Astérides do not allow for the determination of the exact dates or the duration of this residency in 2009.

Androa Mindre Kolo was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1983. He lives and works in Kinshasa (CD).

“My training in interior architecture at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Kinshasa provided me with tools to understand space, and I was able to easily transpose the concepts I acquired to the field of scenography, as it is taught at the school in Strasbourg. When I discovered performance art—during the first visit of a teacher from the Strasbourg School of Decorative Arts, Jean-Christophe Lanquetin—I was immediately able to focus my experiences and knowledge on this new discipline.

Since 2005, all of my personal work has developed in this direction, and the various workshops I attended helped me strengthen the design of my performative actions, clearly distinguishing them from both theatre and dance.

Video work initially emerged as a way to document my actions, but it has since gained autonomy. Sometimes, it becomes one of the elements within the performance itself, during the performance. I’ve also been able to approach the construction of spaces—akin to sets—with rigor, understanding them more as symbolic objects or props. My DNSEP in Strasbourg is a kind of culmination of all these experiences.” — Androa Mindre Kolo
