Beny Wagner

Session #2
01 May to 25 July

Beny Wagner lives and works in Berlin (DE) and Maastricht (NL).

Beny Wagner is an artist and writer with a focus on moving images. Whether through film, writing, discussions, collaboration, or performance, Wagner combines found and created elements to explore the possibilities of contemporary and future narrative forms. His practice examines the intersections of perception, language, and material. Having grown up across multiple cultures (Germany, America, Israel), he is fascinated by the way language shapes collective perception. He contemplates moments of transition in the histories of perception, exploring attempts to question and understand representations of contemporary structures. Rather than addressing overtly political themes, he focuses on changes found in the histories of materials, labor processes, and modes of representation. His current work explores the relationship between digestion and perception.

Beny Wagner (b. 1985, German, American, Israeli) completed his studies at Bard College, New York, in 2008 with a Master’s in Liberal Arts. He has exhibited internationally in solo shows at Pimport Projects (Berlin), Future Gallery (Berlin), Kleine Humboldt Galerie (Berlin), and White Columns (New York), as well as in group exhibitions including the Venice Biennale, Zürich, New York, Berlin, Toronto, Montreal, and Tokyo. He has participated in workshops with Harun Farocki (Rio de Janeiro) and HIAP (Helsinki). Wagner has been awarded the Sol LeWitt Prize and the Nelson B. Delevan Prize. His work has been featured in Artforum, Spike Magazine Quarterly, Frieze Magazine, and Kaleidoscope Press.
