David Perreard

Session #2
01 May to 25 July

David Perreard was born in 1990 in Paris (FR), where he lives and works.

David Perreard creates short videos, staging them like a puppeteer. The narratives he constructs draw from everyday scenes one might unexpectedly witness. Amid these familiar and recognizable situations, techniques hybridize, and rules seem to be sabotaged. A drunken woman’s voice over the skeleton of a Japanese manga—a YouTuber, a magician playing it cool—trapped in an infernal Bar Mitzvah. Each character becomes aware of their mode of existence and struggles to exist. It’s not always easy to coexist when everything forms a mutant. The characters search for their place, as do the images, and this unstable hybridity humorously announces an almost imminent chaos.

David Perreard graduated from Villa Arson (Nice) in 2015, after spending time at FAMU (Prague’s Film and TV School) in 2013. His work has been shown in group exhibitions in Paris and Nice (Villa Arson, La Station, Le Dojo) as well as at the Videoformes festival (Clermont-Ferrand). He will present a collaborative project, SAGA, in collaboration with Rafaela Lopez and Baptiste Masson, at the Artorama fair in August 2016.
