Davide Stucchi

Session #2
01 May to 25 July

Davide Stucchi was born in 1988 (IT) and lives and works in Milan (IT).

Stucchi’s research focuses on exploring the materiality of the artwork with an interest in vision strategies that allow for a reversal of the object’s meaning. He defines himself as a “sculptor,” even though much of his practice unfolds as minimal interventions: engraving leather with fire, shaping with spaghetti, accumulating dust, etc. These interventions, in one way or another, circumvent the possibility of the work being conveyed through traditional channels such as photographic documentation. Stucchi’s practice continuously surprises through its use of self-referentiality and hidden meanings, blurring the boundaries between the viewer, the work, its meaning, and the different contexts in which it is situated.

Davide Stucchi graduated from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan in 2011. In 2010, he was invited as a student to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Recently, his work has been presented at Taylor Macklin in Zurich with the show What’s Left Unsaid, Says It All, curated by Mattia Ruffolo; at Pavillo Sant’Ilario in Genoa with NENA, curated by Francesco Garutti; and at MACRO Museum in Rome with Oggetti Traditi. He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, such as Basic Instinct, curated by Attila Fattori Franchini at Seventeen Gallery in London, and In Real Life, curated by Luca Lo Pinto at Christine König Gallery in Vienna. In 2013, he was in residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris and at Fondazione Pastificio Cerere in Rome.

During his residency at Triangle France, Davide Stucchi dedicated himself to creating a sculpture made of Marseille soap, which will be presented at the contemporary art fair Art-O-Rama 2016. We warmly thank our partner, Savonnerie Fer à Cheval, for their support.
