Emmanuelle Lainé

01 to 01 January 2009

The archives of Triangle-Astérides do not allow for the determination of the exact dates or the duration of this residency in 2009.

Emmanuelle Lainé lives and works in Paris (FR).

“Emmanuelle Lainé creates an art of fiction, much like we speak of ‘science fiction.’ For this reason, it is not entirely surprising that her art appears less as something ‘here’ and more as a trace of an elsewhere: the photographs she exhibits in the gallery depict views of her studio and the ephemeral sculptures she has recently created there.

Science fiction is a literary genre specific to the 20th century, but in its own way, the visual arts have accompanied this literary invention from its inception: the avant-garde art of the time also projected itself into the future, aspiring to prefigure a world to come or to offer a visual extrapolation of the boldest mathematical speculations of the era (such as ‘n’ dimensions, for example). As the future gradually became an obsolete phantasmagoria, art turned towards other ‘elsewheres’—uchronias, heterotopias, …” – Vincent Pécoil
