“The foundation of my work is to collect and compose. In my videos, photographs, drawings, and installations, I make this process visible. I am not seeking a definitive composition or the ‘right’ composition; I prefer to emphasize its instability. I include accidents in it.
In my photographs, which I categorize according to specific criteria, I represent accidental compositions that emerge in public space. I focus on the combination of ordinary things that can be seen both as objects and as abstract elements. My interest in simple geometric shapes, lines, colors, and light connects the different bodies of my work.
In its design and execution, I seek lightness and immediacy. I collect, combine, and compose as in a game that could go on indefinitely, evolving from one medium to another.” – Esther Hiepler
