Eva Barto

Session #3
20 September to 20 December

Eva Barto was born in 1987 in Nantes (FR). She lives and works in Paris (FR).

Eva Barto destabilizes the issues surrounding ownership, a broad notion of possession that she subverts through the status of authorship and assigns to the forms she engages with. She creates ambiguous environments—contexts of negotiation that appear devoid of distinct features, making it difficult to discern what should be considered or disregarded. The objects she designs are borrowings from reality, which she copies or alters to give them a sense of imposture. The paradox she constructs introduces a fiction in which avatars, forgers, and plagiarists become the very protagonists of her reality.

A graduate of the Beaux-Arts de Paris, Eva Barto recently completed the Postgraduate Program at the Beaux-Arts de Lyon, directed by François Piron. Her work has been the subject of two solo exhibitions at the Institut Français d’Amérique Latine (Mexico) and La BF15 (Lyon). Currently in residence at Triangle in Marseille, she is simultaneously participating in a duo exhibition at Annex14 Gallery (Zurich) and developing a new project that will be presented at Espace Primo Piano (Paris) in March 2015.
