“Through my practice, I am interested in the issues of painting beyond the frame. My research focuses on the relationship between one colored surface and another, depending on the scale, pattern, perspective, texture, and play of volume. I regularly create painted objects—whether flat surfaces or small sculptures—intended for the wall, the floor, to be suspended, or with no specific destination.
These objects may incorporate various materials and may have movable parts. I am currently working on a series of cut panels, playing with the surface’s covering and its ability to more or less assert the panel’s form. These elements are somewhat like material sketches. It is an experimental, reactive, intuitive practice. I am also concerned with exploring the kinesthetic relationship to space, particularly in relation to color.
Through the composition of decorated objects, structures, and partitions within a space, I create environments that encourage movement and suggest a certain choreography of perception. I work both in autonomous spaces, where all surfaces can be engaged and lend themselves easily to a meta-installation (such as a studio or gallery), and in spaces that already have an identity and a specific function.” – Flore Nové-Josserand
