Jean de Sagazan

01 to 01 January 2015

Jean de Sagazan is an Astérides Resident in 2015. The archives of Triangle-Astérides do not allow for the determination of the exact dates or the duration of this residency in 2015.

“The gaze began to shift in the # series, depicting an abandoned tennis court.

The zoom technique gradually became more pronounced. The paintings then appeared as details of a larger space. Almost all of them are subjective visions, side views, like those in which the passenger loses themselves, letting their gaze slide to the roadside.

Renouncing the view of the road, the one that stretches ahead and on which they travel, and ignoring the passing landscape, the passenger chooses the roadside as the stage for the spectacle of their journey. The spectacle itself has become poor, lacking in action and presence. My paintings depict spaces where the viewer no longer hopes for any movement. It is in the pictoriality of the world, whether real or perceived, that they now find satisfaction.

The gaze then awakens to the contemplation of fragments of space or still lifes, in both cases with colors forming abstract shapes. The viewer is invited to stop their gaze, like that of the passenger, on these unexpected scenes, on these forgotten objects in a garden, at night.” - Jean de Sagazan

Jean de Sagazan’s work is on display during the exhibition Actuellement en résidence #1, 2015.
