Jeanne Moynot and Anne-Sophie Turion

01 July to 21 August 2019

Jeanne Moynot and Anne-Sophie Turion were born in 1985 and live and work in Paris and Marseille.

Together, they move freely between the white cube and the black box, creating installations, performances, and shows. The backstage shifts to the forefront: the fabrication of spectacular images happens in full view, and real life seeps in from all sides. In 2013, they won the Performance Act Award (Festival Drodesera, Centrale Fies, Italy). Their duo work has been presented at the Villa Arson Contemporary Art Center in Nice, 3bisf in Aix-en-Provence, Le Granit Scène Nationale in Belfort, La Friche Belle de Mai in Marseille as part of the Actoral festival, the Fondation Ricard, and the Centre Pompidou as part of the Hors Pistes festival. It has also been shown at TU-Nantes and Silencio, invited by the Centre National de la Danse. Jeanne Moynot and Anne-Sophie Turion are supported by Actoral, an artist support office.

During the residency:

BELLES PLANTES is a performance that straddles the line between visual arts and live arts. With BELLES PLANTES, we tackle the thorny subject of the trials of time passing. Through intimate storytelling, floral composition, and the construction of large-scale vanitas, we extend the metaphor to create, in real time, a pragmatic and metaphysical fable about aging.

Without filters but with humor, we ask ourselves: what does it mean to grow old? Together, we turn toward this inevitable passage that both fascinates and frightens. We open Proust’s box of madeleines: we embark on questionable reenactments and construct anticipatory narratives, inventing multiple strategies to try to grasp what eludes us—the passing of time. At the heart of a handmade setup and accompanied by dancer Christophe Ives, we dedicate ourselves to crafting tools to cultivate our garden as best we can.
