Rooted in the tradition of abstract painting, Julie Trudel’s practice explores the tensions between order and chaos, constraint and freedom. She approaches these paradoxical positions by painting according to a precise working protocol that allows for the intervention of chance.
Color in its material dimension plays a central role in her work. She seeks to harness the full perceptual complexity generated by the painting, one that engages us through its visual impact, its objecthood, and a process of creation that is both evident and enigmatic.
