Kara Uzelman

01 to 01 January 2009

The archives of Triangle-Astérides do not allow for the determination of the exact dates or the duration of this residency in 2009.

Kara Uzelman lives and works in Canada.

“Kara Uzelman’s assemblages might seem strange if we were not already aware of one of their essential components: invisible phenomena. From secret codes transmitted through Chappe’s semaphores (masts with articulated arms used to send signals across France from the French Revolution to the mid-19th century) to pirate FM waves and the mystical attraction of Inuit monolith assemblages, part of this artist’s work involves elements that escape all our senses.

And yet, we are faced with sculpture. If, as curators and artists suggest, the precarious balance of its masses generates particular waves, or if the mixing of certain materials produces essences with unprecedented properties, Kara Uzelman may well be revealing a science and a technique that defy the imagination: the precise point where knowledge replaces experimentation, where theory overtakes concept.” – Damien Airault
