“I make work that comes from an internal place, things in the back of my brain just beyond my grasp; secrets, fears, dreams and nightmares that fade from memory as the day wears on. Burial/Birth is about birth and death and how closely they are related. The giant seeds have fallen onto a city park and are settling in. It’s about an environmental balance and speaks of urban decay and renewal. My intention is to create art that retains a balance in its content between personal experience and motivation, intellectual stimulation and elements of contemporary society, and its physical presence — a balance between primal and contemporary imagery.” - Kathleen Gilrain
