Lauren Hall

Session #1
01 January to 01 April

Lauren Hall was born in 1986 in Kitchener (CA), and she lives and works in Glasgow (GB).

Lauren Hall’s practice involves making exhibitions and writing. She presents objects under the assumption that they all have intentions; exhibitions want an audience, pop music wants to be loved, myopia wants us to look closely, paperweights want to be at the center of the Earth. Sick or healthy objects are as important as those she assembles herself, and those she has commercially made. She relies on haphazard and abnormal self-manufacturing to reflect on psychological measurement, biopharmaceutical products, leisure activities, and musical education. She views culture as an evolutionary adaptation that fosters empathy and strengthens social cohesion. Her exhibitions often revolve around observation, frequently using 3D glasses, contact lenses, and opera glasses to witness how humans pay attention.

Lauren Hall earned her Master’s degree from Glasgow School of Art in 2014. Her recent exhibitions include That’s Genetic (16 Nicholson St., Glasgow, 2015); Life Like, Transmission (Glasgow, 2015); Comfortably, Warm, Friends, as part of Glasgow International (2014); Archive Fever!, Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery (Waterloo, 2014); and Superpositions New Wight Biennial, UCLA (Los Angeles, 2012). She will be exhibiting next in 2016 at Voidoid Archive in Glasgow, and ESP in Toronto.
