Laurie Charles was born in 1987, she lives and works in Brussels (BE).

“Heir to a YouTube generation steeped in homemade videos, I reclaim the iconic and popular figures of history with a timeless refrain of High and Low, resurrecting them in small transgender philosophical theaters. The artist, like the philosopher, wrestles with their demons and the dead. My videos, graspable as “camera art,” resemble sampled performances in an audiovisual collage made up of a juxtaposition or superimposition of referential layers. I create a displacement, a translation through time and history, toward an enclosed and enigmatic space where the camera turns. Hence the interest in settings often associated with the idea of isolation (forest, cemetery, cave…).” - Laurie Charles
