Mathis Collins

Mathis Collins was born in 1986, and he lives and works in the Mediterranean area.
Mathis Collins’ art is a seasonal theater touring through the rural and urban artistic traditions of the Mediterranean. Its actors are the influence of these arts on people’s daily lives, and its stage is set by the silence and tears that accompany the tragedies of everyday life. In the summer, in the oak forests where the shedding of trees is celebrated, and in the winter, in the bars of cities where ablutions take place at the faucets of barrels; Mathis Collins is a public anthropomorphic stage, drunken and silent, upon which anyone can perform their tragicomedy, draw their caricatures, and write their pamphlets.
Questioning the influence of art on agriculture, craftsmanship, religion, and tourism; forests, bars, libraries, and public fountains are the artist’s favored spaces for unveiling unknown artistic practices while collecting bark, getting drunk, and washing his dirty laundry.
Recently, his work has been exhibited at Chalet Society in L’atelier des testeurs (2013), at the Edouard Manet Art Center in Gennevilliers in Les référents (2013), at the 1M3 Art Center in Lausanne in the solo exhibition BARK (2012), and at the Palais de Tokyo in collaboration with Cyril Verde in DYNASTY (2010).
