01 to 01 January 2011

Rémi Groussin is an Astérides Resident in 2011.

Rémi Groussin was born in 1987, he lives and works in Toulouse (FR).

“What if everything started with a mistake, that this mistake became possible, and that this possibility was mistaken?

‘Design a battery out of phone books.’
My work takes place within a context, a space, or a thematic constraint, which becomes as much the artwork as the resulting object. In action and reaction, it is a practice that constantly aims to rethink our relationship with daily behaviors. It draws on anomalies, errors, and impossibilities.
‘Build a series of one-way bikes: in reverse.’
By staying close to a choreographed method, I aim to plan activation protocols—like combinations, collages—to reveal our shared, experimentally domestic relationships.

‘Stage a canine choreography.’
Through this authoritative relationship to the adaptation of daily actions, I carry out shifts, reversals, and inversions. My artistic research becomes a loss of bearings that invites us to redefine our habits.

‘Aerobics class to learn how to walk on water.’
It is in this analogy to instability—which at times defines the imbalance of an artistic practice—that my multidisciplinary work takes shape, to be expressed through spaces of collective and performative experiences, in video projections, drawings, or activatable sculptures.” – Rémi Groussin
