René Riou

René Riou was born in France, he lives and works in Toulouse (FR).

René Riou’s approach is based on an awareness of places, informed by a sustained reflection of an archaeologist and ethnologist. His objects, projects, and installations reflect his deep respect for “things” and their history… a perspective he shared with Joseph Beuys—and especially with his friend, Robert Filliou.

For the past twenty years, Riou’s work has been presented in both institutions such as the CAPC in Bordeaux, the CIAM in Toulouse, and the Saint-Étienne Museum, as well as in alternative spaces — or in situ in nature.
