Samir Ramdani
Samir Ramdani was born in 1979, he lives and works in Paris (FR).
“The questions I explore in my work stem from my interest in media in general (television, press, entertainment culture…) and cinema in particular. I question the status of these images and the intimate relationship we maintain with them.
This leads me to create video installations or interventions that challenge and play with the nature of these images. A defined protocol guides the project, but its execution remains open to accidents and unforeseen events (as in SCARFACE, a video where children from the Izards housing project in Toulouse reenact Brian De Palma’s Scarface from memory).
Through relatively simple gestures, I like to offer viewers multiple levels of interpretation, a point where ideas intersect and meaning fragments into different directions. A simple form generating broader and more ambiguous objects of reflection.” – Samir Ramdani
