Portrait of Svitlanka Konoplyova

A multidisciplinary artist and trained architect, Svitlanka Konoplyova reinvents the construction of urban spaces by highlighting architecture, art in public space, landscapes, symbols and the memory of urban places. Originally from Crimea, a peninsular region of Ukraine occupied since 2014, Svitlanka Konoplyova’s personal story is closely linked to the myths that shape our environment. Drawing on speculative narratives and decolonial perspectives, the artist uses new technologies to explore and challenge established narratives of the past and their influence on the present. As a researcher of urban forces, she tried her hand at a number of roles, from working in the urban planning department in kyiv to residing in a squat in Odessa. His works explore the (re)creation of myths and the creation of worlds, as well as speculative and hidden spaces.
