Marc Etienne

01 to 01 January 2012

Marc Etienne is an Astérides Résident in 2012.

The archives of Triangle-Astérides do not provide information regarding the dates or the duration of this residency.

Marc Etienne was born in 1971 in Arles (FR), he lives and works in Marseille (FR).

“I start with a questioning of the concept of figure. I consider it in two modes of operation: the figure that one embodies and the figure that one observes.
The questions related to production are an integral part of what I show in my installations. Thus, the gestures required for the technical realization, as well as the attitude and mindset one must adopt for such a type of production, are elements that resurface in the result, and sometimes constitute the very object of the piece.
Before, during, and after production, I ask myself about the disposition, the attitude I adopt towards the object I am trying to achieve. What kind of figure do I embody at this or that moment of the realization.
These elements pertain to me as the archetype of the artist. I draw them from different types of representations, both from the history of art and from the realm of ‘mass cultures.’ By using them as a language, I aim to make them induce different types of ‘artist figures,’ or more broadly, different ways of being in the world depending on how they are manipulated.” - Marc Etienne
