Is this my bio?
Harilay Rabenjamina experiments with new devices and injects performativity into other media. The videos presented on BRUISE, the editorial platform of the art center, are the result of the artist’s reflections on this subject and the research conducted during his residency at Triangle - Astérides from January to April 2021.
Is this my bio? unfolds in four videos, like episodes of a TV series—or a YouTube channel—that are released each evening (from April 20 to 24, 2021). Every evening, from Tuesday to Friday, BRUISE’s listeners are invited to join Harilay for a moment in which his character dispenses advice, love, and emotions.
“Harilay Rabenjamina (1992, FR) presents and embodies, with humor and affection, numerous characters. He infuses them with popular cultural productions that have shaped our generation’s imagination (early 2000s RnB groups, musicals, personal development coaches) and forms—often outdated—that nevertheless shaped their cultural landscape (operettas, declamation, classical music, and vaudeville), all of which provide fertile ground for staging. Constantly oscillating between comedy and tragedy, his performances unfold in installations that blend video, images, music, and song, highlighting the contradictions created by the imperatives of this self-marketing.
The artist also experiments with new devices, injecting performativity into other media. Thus, the videos we present today on Bruise Magazine are the result of the artist’s reflections on this subject and the research conducted during his residency at Triangle - Astérides, in Marseille, from January to April 2021.
