Cross-exhibition program between Astérides and La Générale en Manufacture, or how to create circulation between the Paris and Marseille art scenes, their artists, and their audiences.

Focusing on their respective experiences in supporting visual artists in Marseille and the Paris region, Astérides and La Générale have come to the conclusion that it is difficult to present the work of emerging artists to new audiences, outside a local and familiar network. Between May and June 2008, the two associations therefore decided to collaborate and to invite one another in order to present, “at the other’s venue,” the work of a selection of artists they support.
Each association thus had carte blanche to curate its own exhibition and to occupy, in its own way, the space made available to it. Astérides selected, from among all of its former residents, four artists working in Marseille, who will present a selection of their works—drawings, sculptures, and installations—at the Galerie de la Générale in the Manufacture in Sèvres. La Générale, for its part, is presenting at the Friche gallery the work of ten artists who are members of its collective. For the most part, both exhibitions will be composed of previously unseen works, produced especially for this event.
