Géraldine Pastor Lloret

01 October 1998 to 30 March 1999

In residence at Hangar, Barcelona (ES), as part of an exchange residency with Astérides

Géraldine Pastor Lloret (FR) studied at the University of Aix en Provence and at the École des Beaux Arts in Marseille from 1989 to 1995. From 1994 to 2006 she was actively involved in Marseille’s cultural life through events organized by the SMP Sol Mur Plafond artists’ collective gallery. At the same time she took part in several artist residencies and exhibitions in France and abroad. Since 2006 she has been teaching drawing at the École des Beaux Arts in Besançon.

Géraldine Pastor Lloret’s artistic work develops primarily through drawing but also in the form of installations. The environments she creates often take the form of more or less habitable structures such as greenhouses platforms furniture. They cannot strictly be described as sculptures or objects but rather as complex ensembles organized in space and seeking to reveal moments of mental vacancy or more radically forms of degeneration. Her worlds are thus underground worlds and her characters are without a defined territory and possess multiple identities.

For the Trait d’union project at Collège René Cassin in Cosne Cours sur Loire she worked with the 5th grade students in the discovery track group and their art teacher Philippe Hoffmann on the theme of portraiture. She created a special series of double portraits blending the student’s face with that of a personality chosen by the student who shared the same initials. With this rule of the game established the series of drawings highlights the blurred and shifting boundaries of personality. The line sometimes sharp sometimes accidental questions the limits of likeness and truth. Here drawing is both observation and intuition.
