Emmanuel Simon

01 January to 30 June 2017

Emmanuel Simon is an Astérides Resident in 2017.

Emmanuel Simon was born in 1989 in Paris, he lives and works between Noisy-le-Sec and Toulouse (FR).

A graduate of the Institut Supérieur des Arts de Toulouse in 2014, his work was exhibited at Le 104 in Paris during the 65th edition of Jeune Création, an association in which he is now actively involved as a member of the steering committee. Since then, he has developed a series of collaborative paintings based on a shifting protocol that leads him toward what is often called expanded painting. For each exhibition he takes part in, he creates one or more paintings of the empty exhibition space and invites another artist to intervene freely on them.

These invitations have been presented in various exhibitions across France and Europe: at Kunsthalle am Hamburger Platz (Berlin), during the Biennale015 in Mulhouse, in Toulouse (isdaT, Lieu-Commun, l’Adresse du Printemps de septembre), at the Frac Languedoc-Roussillon (Montpellier), at Sous les tropiques (Brussels), and in Paris (Double Séjour, Galerie Jeune Création) and Vitry (Novembre à Vitry 2016).

His work, nourished by new places and encounters, has also been further developed through residencies, including the 3x3x3 cross-residency program in 2015—gathering Artistes en résidence (Clermont-Ferrand), L’attrape-couleur (Lyon), and Lieu-Commun (Toulouse)—and another residency at Lieu-Commun in 2016 as part of the Post_production initiative.
