Patio, pièce de verdure, détente
Collective show with Antonin Horquin, Linda Sanchez, Emmanuel Simon and Anne Le Troter
April 29 - May 28, 2017
Salle des Machines, Friche La Belle de Mai, 13003 Marseille
This collective initiative at the heart of the Friche la Belle de Mai is neither a point-of-entry assessment nor a final inventory. Patio, pièce de verdure, détente, presented by the four 2017 Astérides residents, is an exhibition of both individual and collaborative gestures, where on the one hand, studio practices shift and harden, and on the other, the listening to language begins to take shape and soften.
The collateral traces of the work become its motif. The formats slowly but surely gain in scale. Wild stapling reflects a direct, unfiltered approach. Networking requires constant readjustments. Well-executed diagrams ensure a controlled change of scale. The condition of the structures reveals their degree of stability. The material holds a relative capacity for muffling. The status of the objects moves from one category to another. Zones of activity are temporarily demarcated. Dating is carried out within a wide range. The surface of the slab determines the degree of the slope. The apprehension of the empty room relies on its most minute characteristics. Taut strings help maintain accurate perspective. Variations in horizontal level segment a vertical movement. Copying in exact detail is a balancing act. The maximum load-bearing capacity is non-negotiable. A crease in the canvas disrupts the space.
