Anne Le Troter
Anne Le Troter is an Astérides Resident in 2017.
Treating language as a malleable material, Anne Le Troter’s work is imbued with a certain triviality, tied to her use of oral forms—or the formless forms of utilitarian language. Drawing inspiration from everyday situations, she transforms her observations of the world around her into text, questioning the mechanisms of language throughout this process.
Using “putting into language” as a tool for knowledge, she attempts to describe—and thereby explain—what she observes in the world. This is an endeavor that is likely both illusory and endless, echoing this excerpt from Nathalie Quintane, a writer dear to the artist: “All this to say that just because you’re writing doesn’t mean you’re any less confused. It just shifts the confusion, that’s all (1).”
