Fahmy Shahin
Fahmy Shahin’s residency at Triangle France is supported by Mophradat.
Fahmy Shahin was born in Cairo (EG) in 1983, he lives and works between Amsterdam (NL) and Cairo (EG).
Fahmy Shahin works with a wide range of media, from instinctive drawing to 3D drawing and 3D printing, bringing objects and sculptures to life. The various layers of materials he employs—visual, archaeological, chemical, hierarchical, financial, historical, cartographic, etc.—engage with narratives that question the construction of histories and the shaping of realities. By extracting familiar historical elements from their original context and subjecting them to multiple interpretations, Fahmy Shahin’s installations function as a visible zone between religion, politics, and myth.
Fahmy Shahin graduated from Helwan University’s Faculty of Applied Arts (Cairo) and the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, where he was awarded the Interactive/Media/Design Department Prize and received an honorable mention for the Stroom Encouragement Award for his project Plastic/Ocean/Desert/Sky. He presented this project at Petra Art Center (Amsterdam) in 2016. His most recent project, Journey In The Land Where Time Rests, was showcased in his latest solo exhibition at Vriend Van Bavink (Amsterdam) in 2017.
