“Accumulation, collection, manual practice.
I am fascinated by everyday objects, common objects, which could also be called ‘poor’ objects, trivial, almost invisible, generally non-collectible (such as cardboard boxes, disposable cutlery, rusted objects, etc.). I find them, collect them, and accumulate them.
From this practice, I develop a specific research on the concept of collection and accumulation of objects in relation to the creative action and the notion of time. My aim is to produce a kind of aestheticization and transformation of reality, which can be interpreted as a relocation of memory linked to the represented object. I try to implement a transformation of the object through, first, its defunctionalization, then a temporal dilation that reveals itself in the act ‘of doing,’ of creating something, and finally, a highlighting of the uselessness of this manual action.
I refer, in particular, to actions that lead to nothing, such as the act of covering a surface entirely with adhesive tape or scratching a piece of marble to create a toothpick. All of this distances the objects from their nature as ‘useful objects’ to elevate them into archaeological relics of a present already past: the contemporary world.
Whether they are cardboard boxes, disposable items, or actual spaces, the transformation always involves a material ‘object’ and its new life.
Ultimately, my practice focuses on a dual action that intersects with a reflection on contemporary society: the revaluation of manual practice (through the irony of certain actions) and, simultaneously, the highlighting of the time dedicated to my practices, thus becoming the alphabet, a new vocabulary with which to translate our daily life.”
