Mükerrem Tuncay is an Astérides Resident in 2014.
“I am interested in archiving time. My research is linked to the transformation that occurs between the past, the present, and the future. Narration plays an important role in my work (photography, video, and sculpture), as it creates a direct connection with the viewer. My sculptures transform day by day, offering visitors the chance to experience their evolution on a daily basis. With instantaneous media, such as photography and video, I usually present ‘time passing within a transformation’.
In this approach, I collaborate with plants, animals, bacteria, and humans, while respecting their rhythms and the time they need to undergo transformation. My interest lies in how living beings can transform physically, chemically, and psychologically by their very nature.” - Mükerrem Tuncay
