Olivier Dollinger

Session #3
20 September to 20 December

Olivier Dollinger was born in 1967 and lives and works in Paris (FR).

“For the past ten years, my work has explored the status of the image and the possibilities of representation through performative video installations. In our contemporary era, dominated by communication and the accelerating circulation of information and images, our perception of time and space is being disrupted, redefining our relationship with memory—both personal and collective.
Various so-called esoteric practices such as spiritualism, hypnosis, and magic serve as tools for questioning belief in the image and its modes of representation. These disciplines sometimes function within my work as a means of revealing invisible spaces (Space Off, 2002) or as tools for revisiting a consciousness haunted by an icon of modern cinema (project Norma Jean, 2003). More recently, my work has increasingly focused on issues related to theatrical space and its boundaries (the missing viewer), as well as exhibition spaces and their artworks (abstract telling), using the grammar of modern magic.” – Olivier Dollinger
