Pauline Toyer

01 July to 20 December 2016

Pauline Toyer is an Astérides Resident in 2016.

Pauline Toyer was born in 1987 in Blois, and she lives and works between Paris and Blois. She was in residence at the Astérides workshops from July to December 2016.

Pauline Toyer transposes objects from the street to her studio, as well as materials and biological phenomena from their original environments to her own research and personal creations. The materials she uses are mostly organic, moving, and unstable over time, but grounded in a specific geography. Living in a new environment is, for her, an opportunity to interact with its unique specifics and to pose new questions with each move.

She informs herself, reflects, experiments, documents the different stages, tries various combinations and physical and material possibilities. Drawing and photography allow her to coordinate her thoughts and document her works at a given moment. These works are, in fact, evolving and extended over time. Through a multitude of steps, Pauline Toyer intervenes in the interactions between the different elements she associates and plays with. She speaks of works in progress: the forms unfold in space, the interactions over time, within a creative circle that continuously decomposes and recomposes.

Pauline Toyer holds a DNSEP - National Higher Diploma in Plastic Expression from the École Nationale Supérieure d’Art de Bourges (2010) and completed the post-diploma at the ENSBA - École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Lyon (2014). She has participated in several solo and group exhibitions, including at Le Deuxième bureau in Bordeaux (2016), Pollen in Monflanquin (2015), the Vestibule of La Maison Rouge in Paris, and Temporary Gallery in Cologne (2014). Her attraction to the work in progress concept leads her to think about evolving sculptures, exhibited and activated at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie (2015) or during the Atelier des Testeurs at the Chalet Society in Paris (2013). A back-and-forth between different locations and residencies allows her to keep her objects in motion.

Pauline Toyer’s work is on display during the exhibition Actuellement en résidence #3 - Crête a creux, 2016.
