A partnership between Astérides (Marseille), JRP Editions (Geneva), Lendroit (Rennes), ALP le Collectif (Toulouse)
October 25 - November 22, 2003
Galerie de la Friche, Friche la Belle de Mai, 13003 Marseille
Trabendo is an exhibition focused on the artist’s multiple (small-scale works in limited editions, numbered and signed). Since 1997, ASTÉRIDES has produced more than fifty editions. Trabendo is an opportunity to present all of the multiples published by Astérides to date (including 10 multiples created in response to a call for proposals as part of this exhibition), and to open up this experience to that of three other structures active in the field of publishing: JRP EDITIONS, Lendroit, and ALP le collectif.
The dialogue between these entities is not exhaustive, and the general idea of the exhibition is to invite viewers to discover a library of small works.
The publishing house JRP Éditions was founded in 1997, following two years of occasional printed projects under the name “Just Ready to be Published.” Its main activity is now the publication of artist projects (books and multiples), as well as books on contemporary art. Since April 2002, JRP has presented its multiple editions in the form of a traveling exhibition, shown in various European galleries. Stéphane Dafflon was invited to design a wall installation to accompany the hanging of the works. The artist created a series of abstract patterns, consistent with his usual practice, which take the physical form of stickers to be applied directly onto the wall. For each venue, the artist designs a unique configuration.
Lendroit is a non-profit organization specializing in the distribution of independent artist editions and artist books. It is a bookstore, gallery, and café, offering the following:
* promotion of independent artist publishing through the distribution of books, videos, and artist CDs,
* offering the public a wide and varied selection of artistic editorial activity from France and abroad,
* enabling the purchase and consultation of contemporary art books and magazines on-site,
* building a reference collection in the field of independent artist publishing,
* organizing exhibitions and various events,
* producing editorial work in collaboration with invited artists,
* providing access to Lendroit’s activities in a welcoming space—a lively place for encounters, exchanges, culture, and enjoyment.
À la plage is a non-profit organization (law 1901) dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of contemporary art. Its activities include:
* showcasing artists from the emerging contemporary art scene,
* disseminating information about these exhibitions through postcards, posters, and catalogues; online, in photographs, and via virtual tours, which are part of the association’s other activity: the ALP collective.
The collective functions as a parallel entity that extends the association’s promotional and dissemination activities beyond its physical space.
As part of the Trabendo exhibition, ALP le collectif is presenting a multiple produced by Astérides.
